Tennessee Baseball Fall Scrimmage Notes And Stats: Oct. 21

Tennessee baseball was back at Lindsey Nelson Stadium on Monday afternoon as the Vols’ begin their fourth week of fall practice. Before heading west to play a pair of scrimmages against Western Kentucky and Louisiana Tech, the Vols played 6.5 innings in an intrasquad scrimmage on Monday.

It’s important to note that this was not a super formal scrimmage. Pitchers are on pitch counts and each pitcher has designated innings to throw. RHP Tanner Wiggins was hit by a line drive and exited the scrimmage just two plate appearances into his outing. That meant that the orange team recorded a half inning-plus less at-bats than the black team did.

The pitching carried the day at Lindsey Nelson Stadium and freshman RHP Tegan Kuhns had the longest outing of the day, throwing three innings. I’ve heard good things about Kuhns so far this fall and he was impressive. Bad defense led to one runner on base when Alex Perry took him deep to the second deck of the left field porches.

But besides that, Kuhns was very effective and kept traffic off the base paths. Liam Doyle pitched just one inning and is on track to throw again against Western Kentucky on Friday. The Ole Miss transfer was dominant, retiring the side in order with a pair of strikeouts.

Brayden May also had a great outing, allowing just one walk while striking out two in two innings pitched. The left-handed pitcher had a ver nice outing.

Tennessee had some defensive miscues including a pair of errors from Dane Morrow at second base, but Levi Clark had a nice play catching a runner stealing.

Gavin Kilen was back in the lineup after missing some time last week but he was just a designated hitter and didn’t play in the field. Ariel Antigua was the opposite, playing in the field but not hitting as he deals with a finger injury. Antigua was working at third base. Dalton Bargo remains out for the time being.

Here’s the full stats from the scrimmage here.
