Gay Street was flooded with orange on Tuesday evening in Knoxville.
Fans gathered on Gay Street and in Market Square in Downtown Knoxville throughout the afternoon in anticipation for the Tennessee Baseball National Championship parade and celebration set for that evening.
As the time drew near for the parade to begin, the crowd started inching closer and closer toward the street with excitement.
There was a palpable buzz in the air.
Kids in various Tennessee sports jerseys snuck through the gaps in the crowd to sit down in the front row, screaming in anticipation of their favorite ball player to come through – almost as if it was Christmas in June.
The Knoxville Pipes and Drums led the charge surrounded by Knoxville Police motorcycles and squad cars.
Then came Tony Vitello.
Sitting atop a black Maserati, the Tennessee head coach was swarmed by the crowd like he was Elvis in Memphis. Vitello did his best to corral the various items being handed to him with a quick signature but still smiled, waved, and yelled with excitement as the car continued forward.
Tennessee’s players were split up into groups with most standing in the back of pick-up trucks. Tennessee first baseman and fan favorite Blake Burke held the NCAA Trophy up high for all to see.
