Tennessee Volunteers pitcher Dylan Loy was named a Freshman All-American this week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association after a memorable first year on Rocky Top, earning a spot on the second team.

The Vols’ relief pitcher from Pigeon Forge High School is the seventh Tennessee player to earn Freshman All-America honors under head coach Tony Vitello, with at least one NCBWA selection in each of the last three years:

The impressive freshman racked up 19 appearances for the Big Orange this season with five starts across the season. Loy, 2-0 during his freshman season, posted a 2.25 ERA with a 1.04 WHIP in 28.0 innings pitched. The Tennessee native struck out 33 batters over the year and held opposing batters to an astonishing .192 batting average.

Loy pitched in the Knoxville Regional and the Knoxville Super Regional for Tennessee, giving up two hits against Indiana but getting a quick out for the Vols against Evansville on Sunday. Loy’s longest outing of the season came against LSU in the SEC Tournament Championship game as he threw 4.2 scoreless innings in relief and allowed just two hits with five strikeouts throughout his appearance.

Loy and the Vols will now gear up for the College World Series this week in Omaha after winning the Knoxville Super Regional over Evansville last weekend. The Vols enter the tournament with the SEC co-regular season championship, the SEC Tournament championship, a sweep in the Knoxville Regional, and a hard-fought win in the Knoxville Supers.

Tennessee’s first game of the 2024 College World Series will be on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. ET from Omaha.

Dylan Loy is one of seven SEC players on both the First and Second Team Freshman All-America units.
