Game three of the Knoxville Super Regional between Tennessee baseball and Evansville is in a weather delay due to thunderstorms in the area. Rain and lightning in the area has pushed back first pitch time to approximately 7:06 p.m. ET according to Tennessee.

Rain began falling shortly before 5 p.m. ET and Evansville even began batting practice before being called off the field due to the incoming thunderstorm.

The rain is supposed to continue until sometime between 6 and 7 p.m. ET before lightening up for at least a few hours. At the time of publication, there’s a 40% chance of ran at 9 and 10 p.m. ET.

Robert M. Lindsay Field at Lindsey Nelson Stadium is turf and typically holds up well to rain. That makes it possible for the game to proceed in rain unless it becomes so heavy that it affects the game or makes the dirt mound unusable.

Tennessee baseball’s season is on the line on Sunday night when they’ll host Evansville in game three of the Knoxville Super Regional at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

The Vols earned an 11-6 victory in game one before an Evansville middle inning push propelled the Purple Aces to a 10-8 game two victory to even up the weekend series and force a pivotal game three.

With a win, Tennessee heads back to the College World Series for the third time in four seasons while a loss ends the Vols’ season in disappointing fashion.
