Former Tennessee Vol and longtime Pittsburgh Steelers defensive back Cameron Sutton looks to be headed back to the Steel City after one year with the Detroit Lions according to ESPN’s Brooke Pryor on Wednesday.
Pryor’s report comes from Sutton’s agent David Carter and states that Sutton plans to sign a one-year deal with Pittsburgh. Sutton spent the first six years of his professional career with the Steelers before going to Detroit for the 2023 season.
In six years with the Steelers, Sutton recorded 168 tackles and eight interceptions with 39 starts in 84 games played. Sutton started all 17 games for Detroit last season and tallied 65 tackles with one interception and one forced fumble.

The Georgia native did find himself in a troubling situation this spring, though. The Lions released Sutton on March 21 after a warrant was issued for his arrest on March 7, stemming from police responding to a home where Sutton “allegedly battered a woman before fleeing the scene,” according to ESPN. Sutton turned himself into Hillsborough County police after three weeks on March 31.
The warrant for Sutton’s arrest claimed a felony, but the reporting stated that his charge was lowered to misdemeanor battery when he was officially charged. Sutton entered a pretrial diversion program on April 17 to resolve his domestic violence case.
A three-star prospect from Jonesboro High School in Georgia, Sutton played at Tennessee from 2013-2016 and ended his career as the Vols’ all-time leader in passes defended with 37 across his time in Knoxville. Sutton recorded 127 total tackles in four years with one sack, seven interceptions, three forced fumbles, 13 tackles for loss, and 37 passes defended.
