The biggest prize in European soccer is at stake on Saturday, June 1, when the UEFA Champions League Final is contested at Wembley Stadium in London, England.
Spanish giant Real Madrid — owners of a record 14 Champions League titles — will square off against Germany’s Borussia Dortmund for a chance at one of soccer’s biggest glories.
Real Madrid is a heavy favorite to lift the trophy based on 2024 UEFA Champions League odds at all of the top online sportsbooks. Los Blancos have odds as strong as -350 at FanDuel Sportsbook and Caesars Sportsbook.
2024 UEFA Champions League Final Odds: Real Madrid Favored to win record 15th title
How’s this for dominance? Not only has Real Madrid won a record 14 Champions League titles, the Spanish club has lifted the trophy in each of its last eight appearances in the final. That includes the 2022 match against Liverpool and three consecutive championships in 2016, 2017, and 2018.
It’s no surprise that Los Blancos is once again expected to reign supreme on Saturday. If you don’t want to lay odds of at least -300 for Real Madrid to lift the trophy, you can get a better price by betting on it to win in 90 minutes.
Here are the odds for three-way betting at BetMGM Sportsbook:
- Real Madrid win: -160
- Draw: +310
- Borussia Dortmund win: +400
Before placing your wager, pay attention to the difference in soccer betting markets.
The three-way line only counts regulation time, or the first 90 minutes plus stoppage time. So, if you bet on Borussia Dortmund to win on the three-way line but Dortmund doesn’t win until penalty kicks, you lose your bet.
On the other hand, if you bet on Borussia Dortmund to “win the trophy,” (+230 odds at BetMGM) then the method in which Dortmund wins doesn’t matter. If Dortmund is crowned the champion, then you win your bet.
2024 UEFA Champions League Final: A Look at Both Teams
As impressive as Real Madrid has been in this competition over decades, Los Blancos have accomplished something thus far in this season that they never had — an unbeaten record (8-0-4).
Experience has mattered. Coach Carlo Ancelotti is seeking his fifth Champions League title, which would extend his current record of four as a coach. Players Luka Modric and Dani Carvajal have won five Champions League titles and could join Madrid’s Paco Gento as the only players to lift the Champions League trophy six times.
Los Blancos won the 2023-24 La Liga title with 95 points — a comfortable 10 points ahead of runner-up Barcelona.
Dortmund, on the other hand, is in the Champions League Final for the third time in club history. It reached this stage in 2013 and lost to fellow German side Bayern Munich. Dortmund’s only title came in 1997 with a win over Italian club Juventus.
Dortmund placed fifth in the Bundesliga this season.
2024 UEFA Champions League Final Best Bet: Take the Under at Plus Money
Goals have been difficult to come by over the last five years in the UEFA Champions League Final. The last four finals have had 1-0 finals, and the one that preceded the current run had a 2-0 final. That’s five consecutive years in which Under 2.5 goals cashed.
What’s the reason for the current trend?
As the years go on, the prizes get richer and richer, and the glory of winning gets bigger and bigger. This season, the total prize pool for Champions League participants is $2.19 billion!
Clubs get money for reaching the group stage and for wins and draws during the group stage. Then they get paid more based on how far they advance in the knockout stage.
Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund have already guaranteed themselves $16.12 million apiece for reaching the final. The winner will get another $5.38 million.
Higher stakes means higher commitment to the defensive end.
