Tennessee small forward D.J. Jefferson entered the transfer portal on Tuesday afternoon, On3’s Jamie Shaw first reported on Monday afternoon.
A former four-star recruit in the 2022 recruiting class, Jefferson redshirted his freshman season at Tennessee before playing all of three minutes during the 2023-24 season.
The left-handed wing hit a three-pointer and grabbed two rebounds while playing three minutes in the Vols’ season-opening victory over Tennessee Tech.

A freak athlete, Jefferson was the Vols’ most used ‘One Fly, We All Fly’ dunker over the last two seasons but never found a a role on the court. With Tennessee losing Dalton Knecht and Josiah-Jordan James this offseason, there was an opportunity for playing time at wing but Jefferson didn’t seem like the most likely candidate to seize the opportunity.
Jefferson did suffer a minor ankle injury in practice before Tennessee basketball’s NCAA Tournament opener against Saint Peter’s and didn’t dress out the remainder of the tournament.
The Richardson, Texas native is the second Tennessee player to enter the transfer portal this offseason alongside fellow redshirt freshman guard Freddie Dilione. A talented guard, Dilione entered the transfer portal last week after averaging 1.7 points in 18 games this season.
Tennessee now has four scholarships to work with this offseason as they look to attack the transfer portal and potentially add another prep prospect.
