Tennessee running back Jaylen Wright posted a handful of top-notch statistics during his on-field workout at the NFL Combine on Saturday afternoon in Indianapolis.
Wright, a three-year player at Tennessee, made his decision to enter the NFL Draft after he eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark during the 2023 season. The Durham, North Carolina, native was invited to the 2024 Reese’s Senior Bowl but did not participate while he was nursing an injury.
The decision looks to be a smart one after some of the truly insane statistics that Wright posted in Lucas Oil Stadium on Saturday.
In his first drill of Saturday, Wright posted an 11-foot, 2-inch broad jump. The official NFL social media account originally tweeted out that Wright’s jump was the “second-best mark by a RB at the Combine since 2003,” but the tweet was later deleted and reposted without the historic comparison.

Peter Schrager, a senior national writer for Fox Sports, also tweeted out the stat.

Wright’s next event was the 40-yard dash, where he put up some terrific numbers both standalone and in comparison to his other competitors.
Jaylen Wright posted a 4.44-second 40-yard dash on his first attempt, but it was hindered by a wide first step out of the gates. Wright, known for his explosivity on the field, had a solid first run but absolutely had room to improve in his second and final run because of that initial misstep. After running the 4.44u time, Wright had the fourth-fastest time among the competitors.
On his second attempt, though, Wright locked in out of the gate. The former Tennessee 1,000-yard rusher reached a 4.38 official time on his second run as his first 10 looked to be quicker and more smooth. Wright still looked to be disappointed with his time as the Vol wanted to shave even more ticks off the final time.

Wright’s 4.38 official time was the second-highest among running back times at the 2024 NFL Combine.
According to NFL Next Gen Stats, Wright posted the No. 1 top speed at five yards at the 40-yard dash among running backs at the NFL Combine in the last two years.

Wright participated in the running activities but was not active in the receiving drills as he still recovers from thumb surgery this offseason. Wright was quick to point out that the injury didn’t stop him from playing in all 12 regular season games this past year, though.
According to a report from Dallas Cowboys team beat writer Nick Harris, Wright was one of five Combine running backs to receive a formal meeting with the Cowboys this past week.
