With VFL Trey Smith winning his first Super Bowl with the Kansas City Chiefs last year, the Tennessee football program added another big name to its long list of Super Bowl winners.

According to a post on social media on Wednesday, Tennessee has the second-most Super Bowl-winning players across the nation, headlined by names such as Peyton Manning (’07, ’16), Bill Bates (’93, ’94, ’96), Jabari Greer (’10), Jamal Lewis (’01), and Cordarelle Patterson (’19).

The Vols will have two unique opportunities during the Big Game coming up on Sunday.

If the Kansas City Chiefs win another Super Bowl, Smith will become just the ninth former Tennessee Vol to win multiple Super Bowls, joining Bill Bates, Craig Colquitt, Jack Reynolds, Mickey Marvin, Raleigh McKenzie, Alvin Harper, Marcus Nash, and Peyton Manning. Bates has three Super Bowl victories while the other seven on the list have two rings.

Manning and Nash are the only two on the list to win a Super Bowl with two different organizations. Nash won with Denver in 1999 and Baltimore in 2001 while Manning won with Indianapolis in 2007 and Denver in 2016.

On the other hand, though, VFL Jauan Jennings could acquire his first Super Bowl ring if the San Francisco 49ers win the Super Bowl. Jennings will be the 74th Volunteer to play in the Super Bowl from the University of Tennessee.

If Jennings and the Niners do end up winning this Saturday, the former Vol wide receiver will be the 36th Tennessee player to win a Super Bowl in their first appearance, done most recently by Trey Smith during the 2023 season.

Jennings missed some time late in the regular season with an injury but returned for the postseason and played in the NFC Divisional round against Green Bay and the NFC Championship round against Detroit. The former Vol racked up 61 yards on five receptions against the Packers and eight yards on one reception against the Detroit Lions.

Jennings’ catch against the Lions came at a crucial moment of the game and helped give San Francisco some much-needed momentum.

Super Bowl LVIII between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers will kick off at 6:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, Feb. 11.
