UConn transfer tight end Justin Joly is no longer officially visiting Tennessee this weekend as originally planned, he shared on X Thursday morning.

Tennessee offered Joly quickly after the transfer portal opened on Monday and organized an official visit this weekend shortly afterwards. The Vols are one of a number of top schools that offered the UConn transfer including Colorado, Mississippi State, North Carolina State and Arizona State.

Joly ranks as the No. 18 player and the No. 1 tight end in the country according to the 247sports transfer rankings. The rising junior tight end is coming off a big sophomore season that saw him catch 56 passes for 578 yards and two touchdowns.

Joly turned in a strong performance in UConn’s 59-3 loss inside Neyland Stadium this season, catching eight passes for 59 yards.

Tight end is a major position of need for Tennessee in the transfer portal. Seniors Jacob Warren and McCallan Castles played almost every snap for the Vols at tight end last season and both are out of eligibility ahead of the 2024 season. Freshman tight end Ethan Davis has a chance to step into a larger role next season but Tennessee needs to add at least one more tight end in the transfer portal.

There are a number of tight ends available in the transfer portal including Texas A&M’s Jake Johnson, Notre Dame’s Holden Staes and Maryland’s Rico Walker.
