South Carolina star receiver Antwane “Juice” Wells intends to enter the transfer portal, the Post and Courier’s David Cloninger and others reported on Thursday morning.

Wells played in just three games this season while dealing with a foot injury he suffered in fall practice and eventually ended his senior season.

However, Wells was one of the SEC’s best receivers as a junior after transferring from James Madison. The 6-foot-1 receiver caught 83 passes for 1,250 yards and 15 touchdowns in 2021 at JMU  before catching 68 passes for 928 yards and six touchdowns in 2022 at USC.

Wells previously shared a post on X (formerly Twitter) stating his plans to return to South Carolina for a fifth season before reportedly changing his mind and deciding to play his final collegiate season elsewhere. As a grad transfer, Wells is eligible to play immediately at the school of his choosing.

The transfer receiver is a Virginia native and has been linked to Texas on Thursday in part because one of his former James Madison teammates now plays for the Longhorns.

South Carolina had avoided any major departures to the transfer portal this week before Wells’ reported decision. The transfer portal doesn’t officially open until next Monday, Dec. 4. The portal ravaged the Gamecocks’ program last season including stars Marshawn Lloyd (Southern Cal), Jaheim Bell (Florida State) and Jordan Burch (Oregon).
