Tennessee football’s 2024 schedule hasn’t been released, but we’re starting to get a clearer picture thanks to a report from ESPN’s Chris Low.
The Vols will open SEC play at Oklahoma on Sept. 21 in Josh Heupel’s return to his alma mater and hosts rivals Florida and Alabama consecutively on Oct. 12 and Oct. 19. The SEC is poised to release the complete 2024 conference schedule sometime in December according to Low.
With three of Tennessee’s SEC games set we now know the date of seven of the games on the Vols’ 2024 slate. Tennessee opens Josh Heupel’s third season on Aug. 31 against Chattanooga before facing its first true test a week later in Charlotte against North Carolina State.

The Vols host Kent State at Neyland Stadium on Sept. 14 and UTEP on Nov. 23.
While we don’t yet know the dates, we do know the Vols’ five over SEC opponents in the first season of the expanded SEC. Tennessee hosts Mississippi State and Kentucky at Neyland Stadium in addition to Florida and Alabama. The Vols also face Arkansas, Georgia and Vanderbilt on the road.
In 2024, Labor Day weekend to Thanksgiving weekend includes 14 Saturdays making it one of the rare college football seasons where teams will have two open dates.
The Vols schedule includes a number of storylines like Heupel’s return to Norman, facing his former assistant Jeffy Lebby in his first season at Mississippi State on top of regular rivalry matchups against Florida, Alabama and Georgia.
