Blue-chip EDGE rusher Zahir Mathis released his official Top Five list on Tuesday afternoon. Mathis’ list features Ohio State, Florida State, Texas, Tennessee, and South Carolina after receiving more than 30 total offers over the course of his recruitment.

The Vols originally made the cut for Mathis’ Top 12 back in August before sticking around in the Top 5 on Tuesday.

Mathis is a consensus Top 100 player in the class of 2025 from Philadelphia’s Imhotep Institute Charter High School.

The 6-foot-6, 225-pound EDGE rusher is ranked as a four-star prospect according to all four major publications of 247 Sports, Rivals, ESPN, and On3 Sports. Additionally, 247 Sports’ composite rankings have Mathis as the No. 41 player in the country, the No. 5 EDGE rusher in the class, and the No. 1 player from the state of Pennsylvania.

Tennessee looks to have been in contact with Mathis for over a year now after officially offering him a scholarship in September 2022. The talented prospect then had a busy summer in 2023 with unofficial visits to South Carolina, Clemson, Georgia, Alabama, and Tennesee over the span of about a week in June according to 247’s recruiting timeline.

While Mathis still looks to have a good bit more time until he announces his decision, the Vols do already have three talented players committed to the 2025 class.

Tennessee has a pair of three-star cornerbacks who are teammates at Milton High School in Alpharetta, Georgia with Shamar Arnoux and Dylan Lewis. The Vols also just received a commitment from three-star running back Justin Baker (Buford, GA) this past Wednesday.
