VFLs in NFL Week 7: Kamara Dominates, Palmer and Hyatt Set Career Highs

Week 7 of the NFL season has officially concluded.

Thirty former Vols are on rosters this NFL season, representing 20 different teams. Seventeen saw action in Week 7.

See how each VFL fared in this past weekend’s action below.

S Micah Abernathy – Atlanta Falcons

On the practice squad.

DE Derek Barnett – Philadelphia Eagles

Did not record a stat as a reserve defensive end in Philadelphia’s 31-17 win over the Dolphins. He played 14 percent of defensive snaps and 27 percent of special teams snaps.

DT Matthew Butler – Las Vegas Raiders

On the practice squad.

WR Marquez Callaway – Las Vegas Raiders

On the practice squad.

LS Morgan Cox – Tennessee Titans

BYE WEEK

QB Joshua Dobbs – Arizona Cardinals

Completed 19 of 33 passes for 146 yards and no touchdowns or interceptions in the Cardinals’ 20-10 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on the road.

Dobbs also ran seven times for 43 yards, including a 25-yard touchdown run that was Arizona’s only score of the day.

TE/FB Princeton Fant – Dallas Cowboys

On the practice squad – BYE WEEK

QB Hendon Hooker – Detroit Lions

Inactive as he remains on the NFI list still rehabbing his ACL injury.

WR Jalin Hyatt – New York Giants

Saw a career-high five targets and caught two of them for 75 yards. The VFL played 71 percent of offensive snaps and, over the past couple of weeks, has emerged as a top three wide receiver for New York.

S Theo Jackson – Minnesota Vikings

Recorded two tackles, one solo, and played 13 percent of defensive snaps and 55 percent of special teams snaps in Minnesota’s 22-17 win over San Francisco.

WR Jauan Jennings – San Francisco 49ers

Saw a season-high in targets, catches, yards and snap share in the 49ers’ five-point loss to Theo Jackson’s Vikings on Monday Night Football.

Jennings caught five of nine targets for 54 yards in the loss, filling in as one of the top pass-catching on a 49ers team that was without Deebo Samuel on Monday.

LB Alexander Johnson – Miami Dolphins

On the practice squad.

FB Jakob Johnson – Las Vegas Raiders

Did not log a stat but played 25 percent of offensive snaps and 48 percent of special teams snaps in the Raiders’ 30-12 loss to the Bears.

WR/PR Velus Jones Jr. – Chicago Bears

Caught his lone target for zero yards and returned two kicks for 49 yards in the Bears’ win over the Raiders. The VFL also recorded a special teams tackle.

Jones played 11 percent of offensive snaps and 61 percent of defensive snaps.

RB Alvin Kamara – New Orleans Saints

Kamara continued to be the focal point of the Saints’ offense in New Orleans’ 31-24 loss to the Jaguars last Thursday on Thursday Night Football.

The NFL legend logged 17 carries for 62 yards and caught 12 of 14 passes for 91 yards and caught a two-point conversion in the loss.

BYE WEEK

CB Emmanuel Moseley – Detroit Lions

OUT FOR THE SEASON

WR Joshua Palmer – Los Angeles Chargers

Palmer had a career day in the Chargers’ 31-17 loss to the Chiefs on Sunday.

The Chargers have been without starting wide receiver Mike Williams since Week 3, and Palmer has continued to take advantage of an extended role.

The VFL wideout caught five of seven targets for a career-high 133 yards and played 98 percent of offensive snaps in the loss.

Palmer’s biggest play of the day was this 60-yard catch.

RB Cordarrelle Patterson – Atlanta Falcons

With starting running back Bijan Robinson unable to play his normal snap share due to a health issue, Patterson saw an increased workload in Atlanta’s 16-13 win over the Buccaneers.

Patterson ran 10 times for 56 yards and returned one kick for 25 yards in the win. The VFL played 40 percent of offensive snaps and 19 percent of special teams snaps.

DE Kyle Phillips – New Orleans Saints

On the practice squad.

LB Jalen Reeves-Maybin – Detroit Lions

Did not record a stat but played 100 percent of special teams snaps as the Lions’ special teams captain in Detroit’s blowout 38-6 loss to the Ravens.

OG Trey Smith – Kansas City Chiefs

Played 100 percent of offensive snaps at starting right guard and 19 percent of special teams snaps in the Chiefs’ two-score win over the Chargers.

CB Cameron Sutton – Detroit Lions

Tallied three tackles, one solo, and played 95 percent of defensive snaps as a starting cornerback for the Lions in loss to Baltimore.

CB Alontae Taylor – New Orleans Saints

Recorded six tackles, five solo, and played 75 percent of defensive snaps and 38 percent of special teams snaps as a starting corner for the Saints in their loss to Jacksonville.

DE Darrell Taylor – Seattle Seahawks

Made three tackles, one solo, one TFL, 1.5 sacks, two QB hits and played 59 percent of defensive snaps and 12 percent of special teams snaps in Seattle’s 20-10 win over Seattle.

It was Taylor’s best game of the season.

WR Cedric Tillman – Cleveland Browns

Was inactive in the Browns’ win over the Colts. He was a healthy scratch.

DL Shy Tuttle – Carolina Panthers

BYE WEEK

OT Darnell Wright – Chicago Bears

Played 93 percent of offensive snaps as the starting right tackle in Chicago’s win over the Raiders. Also played 9 percent of special teams snaps.

DT Kendal Vickers – Buffalo Bills

On the practice squad.

DE Byron Young – Los Angeles Rams

Young’s great rookie season continued. He recorded three total tackles, all solo, two QB hits, one TFL, and played 95 percent of defensive snaps as a starting defensive end in the Rams’ win over Arizona.

Young also played four percent of special teams snaps.
