Tennessee football coach Josh Heupel didn’t mention CBS play-by-play announcer Gary Danielson name, but speaking on SEC Nation Saturday morning the Vols’ third-year head coach seemed very aware of Danielson’s comments earlier this week.

The comment in question?

“I get that. It’s a way of life. We embrace it from a production standpoint, and it’s fun,” Danielson said to Sparks about Neyland Stadium. “I love it all, the pomp and the circumstance and the storylines. Tennessee doesn’t have to take a backseat to anybody. But to me, it’s just about the same (as other SEC stadiums).”

There was nothing overly crazy about Danielson’s comments, besides comparing the environment at Ole Miss’ Vaught Hemingway Stadium to the rest of the SEC powers. But that didn’t stop Tennessee fans from rushing to defend Neyland Stadium this week.

More From RTI: Tennessee-Texas A&M By The Numbers

Heupel referenced the disrespect during his SEC Nation appearance Saturday morning and defended the Vols’ home stadium while calling for a rowdy environment against Texas A&M.

“We need it to be Neyland loud today,” Heupel said. “We were talking about that a little bit earlier. I know there’s some across the country that don’t necessarily feel like Neyland is that loud. I expect a big time performance from our fans today.”

Tennessee is riding a 12-game home winning streak entering the Texas A&M game. The Neyland Stadium winning streak dates back to the Vols’ loss against Georgia in November 2021. Tennessee was unbeaten at Neyland Stadium in 2022 including victories over Florida, Alabama and Kentucky.

Kickoff from Neyland Stadium is at 3:30 p.m. ET Saturday afternoon. Brad Nessler, Gary Danielson and Jenny Dell are on the call for CBS.

  1. Danielson needs to be relegated to division 2 end 3 games which more nearly match his talent

  2. What does Gary know? Nothing about Neyland!! Not much more about calling a Game!!
