Tennessee Rises in the AP Rankings, Still Outside of the Top 20

The Tennessee Volunteers rose two spots to No. 21 in the latest AP Top 25 poll that was released on Sunday afternoon.

The Vols defeated the UTSA Roadrunners on Saturday as the No. 23 team in the country by a score of 45-14.

This is the 18th straight week that Tennessee has landed in the AP Top 25 dating back to the second week of the 2022 football season.

2023 Season

  • Preseason/Week 1: No. 12
  • Week 2: No. 9
  • Week 3: No. 11
  • Week 4: No. 23
  • Week 5: No. 21

The Vols also land at No. 19 in the USA Today Coaches Poll.

Tennessee comes in as the fifth-highest team from the SEC out of the seven teams in the rankings. This is the first time all season that the SEC has had seven teams in the AP Top 25 poll.

Georgia remains the No. 1 team in the nation while Alabama and LSU land back-to-back at the No. 12 and No. 13 spots, respectively. A logjam of four straight SEC teams then begins the 20s.

Ole Miss ranks at No. 20, Tennessee is at No. 21, Florida is at No. 22, and Missouri is at No. 23.

  • No. 12 Alabama
  • No. 13 LSU
  • No. 20 Ole Miss
  • No. 21 Tennessee
  • No. 22 Florida
  • No. 23 Missouri

No. 21 Tennessee will host South Carolina this week in Knoxville at 7:30 p.m. ET on the SEC Network.
