Former Tennessee quarterback Tayven Jackson has been named the starting quarterback at the University of Indiana moving forward.

Indiana head coach Tom Allen announced the news that Jackson would be the guy moving forward on Monday.

“Tayven Jackson’s going to be our starting quarterback, and we’re excited for the opportunity for him,” Allen said.

“Coming here, it’s been a struggle. It’s been hard going through a quarterback battle,” Jackson said about his time so far at Indiana. “But, you know, that’s life. So it was a relief.”

The redshirt freshman did well in his first career start on Saturday, completing 18 of 21 passes for 236 yards and no turnovers. Additionally, the former Vol ran for nine yards and a touchdown on six carries.

Jackson had previously been in a quarterback competition with Brendan Sorsby, who started in Week 1 in the Hoosiers’ 23-3 loss to Ohio State and relieved Jackson in last week’s blowout win.

But Jackson’s solid performance in Indiana’s first win of the 2023 season for Allen to finally make a decision.

After appearing in just three games and redshirting a year ago with Tennessee, the former four-star recruit now has the opportunity to lead a Big Ten program for the rest of the season.
