Three Things to Watch For During the First Two Weeks of Tennessee’s Season

Tennessee football has the luxury of being able to work out any kinks they may have during the first two weeks of the season against significantly lesser opponents in Virginia and Austin Peay.

The Vols aren’t a team with a lot of questions or concerns, but there are a few things, specifically three position groups, everyone should keep a close eye on while the Vols coast to easy wins.

The wide receivers, the offensive line and the secondary.

No one should be worried about the wide receivers and for good reason. Tennessee has an elite quartet in Bru McCoy, Squirrel White, Dont’e Thornton and Ramel Keyton. But how will playing time be distributed amongst the four? Will White or Thornton see more snaps in the slot? Will Thornton see any snaps out wide? If so, how much does that cut into Keyton’s playing time?

All are questions to keep in mind while watching Tennessee’s explosive wideouts over the next two weeks.

Unlike the wide receivers, there are legitimate concerns regarding Tennessee’s offensive line and secondary. Will anybody separate themselves in the secondary and become a really good player? If Cooper Mays is out, how will Ollie Lane perform at center? Who would then fill in for Lane at left guard? And how good will new starting tackles John Campbell and Jeremiah Crawford be?

There will be a lot of rotation and competition at those two groups in the first two games, specifically in the secondary, and it’ll be intriguing to see if anyone can stand out.

RTI takes a look at all those questions in the latest High & Tight, presented by Gambuzza’s Barbershop.
