Four-star defender Danny Okoye released his top six including Tennessee football Sunday afternoon. The Vols joined Alabama, Colorado, LSU, Oklahoma and Texas in Okoye’s top group.

A Tulsa native, Okoye ranks as the No. 158 player in the country and the No. 1 player in the state of Oklahoma according to the 247sports composite rankings.

Playing for NOAH Homeschool as a sophomore and junior, Okoye totaled 121 tackles, 27 tackles for loss and 16.5 sacks.

The 6-foot-4, 241-pound prep prospect could play a number of positions in college but projects as an edge rusher and that’s where Josh Heupel and his staff are recruiting him to play in Knoxville.

Okoye hasn’t been overly active taking visits during his recruitment, but has visited Tennessee twice on unofficial visits this year. The four-star recruit has only take one official visit— a trip to Texas in June. He’s also taken three unofficial visits to Oklahoma and one unofficial visit to the three other schools in his top group: Alabama, Colorado and LSU.

Tennessee has three defensive line commits in its 2024 recruiting class but none of Carson Gentle, Jeremiah Heard or Kellen Lindstrom are definitive edge rushers. The Vols are top contenders for Alabama five-star edge rusher Jordan Ross.

The Vols’ 19 commit 2024 recruiting class currently ranks 11th nationally and sixth in the SEC according to the 247sports team rankings.
