Tennessee football’s highest rated target in the entire 2024 recruiting cycle is announcing his college commitment Monday night.

Five-star defensive tackle Williams Nwaneri is announcing his commitment at 5 p.m. ET Monday night and is deciding between a top group which includes Georgia, Missouri, Oklahoma, Oregon and Tennessee.

Nwaneri is one of the top prospects in the country, ranking as the No. 3 player and No. 1 defensive lineman in the country according to the 247sports composite rankings. The 6-foot-5, 250-pound defensive lineman is On3’s top prep player in the country.

Rodney Garner and the Vols have long pursued the Lees Summit, Missouri native as one of their top targets in the 2024 recruiting cycle.

Nwaneri has taken four visits to Tennessee in 2023 including a June official visit. The blue-chip recruit has taken official visits to all of his top five except for Oregon— seemingly ruling the Ducks out for landing the five-star.

The elite defensive lineman has taken more visits to home state Missouri than any other school though only two of those visits have come in 2023. Nwaneri has also taken four trips to Oklahoma and three trips to Georgia during his recruitment.

There remains plenty of guessing about where Nwaneri will commit ahead of his Monday decision. The lone 247sports crystal ball has the five-star going to Oklahoma. On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine has Oklahoma as the leader to land Nwaneri followed by Georgia, Missouri, Tennessee and Oregon— in that order.

Tennessee’s 2024 recruiting class currently contains 19 commits including three defensive linemen: three-star Jeremias Heard, three-star Carson Gentle and four-star Kellen Lindstrom.

The Vols’ 19 commit recruiting class currently ranks No. 11 nationally according to the 247sports team rankings.
