Former Tennessee running back Jalen Hurd signed with the New England Patriots on Tuesday, the team announced through their team website.
The terms of the deal have not been announced at this time.
Hurd, a native of the Volunteer State (Hendersonville), began his collegiate career with Tennessee in 2014. After the end of his three-year career in Knoxville, Hurd had found himself on a handful of record lists. Hurd is currently No. 6 in Tennessee history for career rushing yards (2,638), No. 7 in single-season rushing yards (1,288, 2015), and No. 2 in all-time rushing attempts (589).
Jalen Hurd would eventually transfer to Baylor in 2017 where he sat out for one year before playing his final collegiate season as a receiver with the Bears in 2018. Hurd then made his way to the NFL via a third-round pick to the San Francisco 49ers in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Injuries have severely limited Hurd’s time in the NFL.
Hurd missed his rookie season after sustaining a back injury in the fall of 2019. Then, in 2020, Hurd was again placed on injured reserve after tearing his ACL during training camp.
Hurd found himself on injured reserve again in September of 2021 before being released in November without ever taking a snap for the San Francisco 49ers.
After nearly two years without a home in the NFL, Hurd will now be working out for the New England Patriots under head coach Bill Belichick.
