Four-star cornerback and Tennessee football target Cai Bates is announcing his college commitment Wednesday, the blue-chip prospect announced last week. The time of Bates commitment has not been announced yet.
Bates is one of the top cornerback recruits in the 2024 recruiting cycle and has not cut down his contenders into a concrete list before announcing his college commitment. The Orlando, Florida native took June official visits to Alabama, Florida State, LSU and Tennessee but his recruitment is seemingly coming down to the Vols and Tigers.
The Florida corner’s official visits to Alabama, Florida State and Tennessee were his only visits to those three schools while he also took a lone unofficial visit to LSU.

Bates ranks as a four-star recruit and the No. 107 player in the country according to the 247sports composite rankings. The 6-foot-1, 185 pound corner ranks as the 11th best cornerback in the country and the 14th best prep player in the state of Florida.
Tennessee football’s 2024 recruiting class currently contains 18 commits though only four-star Nashville native Kaleb Beasley is definitively a cornerback in college. Four-star Chattanooga native Marcus Goree Jr. could also end up playing cornerback in Knoxville.
The Vols signed a strong cornerback class during the 2023 cycle, landing four-stars Jordan Matthews and Rickey Gibson as well as three-star Cristian Conyer.
Tennessee’s 2024 recruiting class currently ranks 10th nationally according to the 247sports team rankings, but a commitment from Bates would bolster it to No. 7 nationally.
