Tennessee Football’s commitment from four-star interior offensive lineman William Satterwhite on Friday afternoon brings the Vols a bit closer to the Top 10 of the 2024 national recruiting rankings.
Satterwhite gives Tennessee their 16th commitment in the class of 2024, which is a bit behind programs such as Georgia (24), Florida (17), and LSU (18). The Vols do have more commitments at this time than Alabama (10), South Carolina (13), and Arkansas (14).
Here’s a look at how Tennessee moved following the addition of a four-star prospect on Friday:
- Pre-Satterwhite: No. 12 nationally, No. 5 SEC
- Post-Satterwhite Commitment: No. 11 nationally, No. 5 SEC
- Pre-Satterwhite: No. 15 nationally, No. 5 SEC
- Post-Satterwhite Commitment: No. 13 nationally, No. 5 SEC
- Pre-Satterwhite: No. 14 nationally, No. 6 SEC
- Post-Satterwhite Commitment: No. 12 nationally, No. 5 SEC
- The Vols jumped over LSU in the rankings, who now sit at No. 13, one spot behind the Vols

With most teams in the Top 15 of the rankings having 15 commitments at minimum, the cycle is essentially moving to the point where a quality four-star such as Satterwhite is only going to impact the movement in the standings so much. The Vols bumped up two spots on two publications and one spot on the third.
That being said, though, rankings don’t impact wins on the field compared to the actual players themselves. Satterwhite is a big, strong, tough offensive lineman that projects well for the trenches of SEC play. Satterwhite joins the 2024 Tennessee recruiting class as the highest-ranked U.T. offensive line commit and the Vols’ fifth-highest commit overall.
Rankings are rapidly shifting day-to-day due to all the recruiting activity, too. One week prior to Satterwhite’s commitment, Tennessee landed four-star wide receiver Braylon Staley. After Staley’s commitment, on June 30, Tennessee was a fringe Top 10 recruiting team sitting at No. 10 via 247 and On3 and No. 13 according to Rivals. The Vols fell back a bit over that next week after missing out on some targets but are looking to re-enter the Top 10 on the heels of the Satterwhite commitment.
