Former Tennessee Vol Josh Richardson is taking his talents to South Beach again.
As reported by ESPN over the weekend, Richardson is returning to the Miami Heat on a two-year, $6 million deal.
Richardson was at Tennessee from 2011 until his departure for the NBA Draft in 2015. The Edmond, Oklahoma native averaged 16 points per game with the Volunteers in his final collegiate season before moving on to the NBA. The former two/three-star recruit ended up being a game-changing guard for Tennessee and was named to the All-SEC First Team, the SEC All-Defensive team, and the Defensive All-American team during his final season on Rocky Top.
Richardson was selected by the Heat with the 40th overall pick in the 2015 Draft.

The former Volunteer spent his first four years in the league with Miami before bouncing around with a few different teams. In a funny turn of events with hindsight, Richardson was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers in July of 2019 in order for the Heat to acquire star shooting guard Jimmy Butler.
With Richardson returning to Miami this offseason, Butler and Richardson will now be on the same team together.
In November 2020, Richardson was then traded to the Mavericks and finished out the season in Dallas. Richardson was then acquired by the Boston Celtics in July 2021 but was traded to the San Antonio Spurs in February 2022. One year later, in February 2023, Richardson was traded to the New Orleans Pelicans.
Over the span of 503 games played, Richardson is career-averaging 11. 8 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game.
