Versatile Wofford standout Ryan Galanie committed to Tennessee baseball Sunday, GoVols247’s Ben McKee first reported. Galanie chose the Vols over a decorated top group which included Louisville and Texas.
All Galanie did in his four seasons in Spartanburg was hit. The Dublin, Ohio native hit .383 with 17 home runs, 15 doubles and 66 RBIs in his senior season, earning SoCon Player of the Year honors. Galanie hit over .300 in three of his four seasons at Wofford (including the COVID shortened 2020 season) and hit .329 with 17 home runs and 10 doubles as a junior.
Adding a right-handed bat of Galanie’s caliber to Tennessee’s offense is a huge win and point of emphasis for the Vols’ this offseason. Tennessee’s offense was left-handed heavy last season and the Vols lose Griffin Merritt to graduation with young left-handed bats Dylan Dreiling, Kavares Tears and Reese Chapman poised to step into a bigger role.

The 6-foot-2, 215-pound prospect played a number of positions in his time at Wofford and is versatile defensively. Galanie spent his entire junior season at third base and much of his senior season at first base. The elite bat also has the ability to play in the outfield.
Tennessee will likely lose starting third baseman Zane Denton to the MLB Draft next month but returns starting first baseman Blake Burke for his junior season. The Vols will also have competition in the outfield with the departure of Merritt and Jared Dickey. However, Tennessee is far from void of options in the outfield.
Galanie’s commitment marks a major win for Tennessee baseball in the transfer portal as the grad transfer will have an active role for the Vols next season.
