Tennessee vs. LSU College World Series Odds

The Vols held off elimination in dramatic form Monday, winning 6-4 after going down 4-0 in the third inning. Four runs in the fifth tied the game, and two in the seventh sealed the deal. But celebration time is short-lived in the College World Series.

Now Tennessee is facing a formidable LSU team that beat them 6-3 in the kickoff game on Saturday. The two teams clashed during the regular season in Baton Rouge, and LSU won that series 2-1.

The surprise odds twist? Tennessee was a slight favorite to win Tuesday’s game on several of the top online sportsbooks on Tuesday morning. Early in the afternoon, however, the sides flipped, and now LSU is a slight favorite.

You can bet on the total (Over/Under) also. At all four of the above sportsbooks, the total is 11.5 as of early Tuesday afternoon. The juice varies at all four.

Why is it so close? When the two match up, LSU has proven to be the superior team. However, they’re limping now after a loss to No. 1 Wake Forest and a trip to the loser’s bracket tonight.

The Tigers also have an Achilles heel in their pitching lineup. They have ace Paul Skenes, who is likely to be the first pitcher taken in the MLB Draft. But it’s unlikely he’ll play tonight without enough rest time since the last Tennessee game, where the Vols simply couldn’t hold up against his pitching. Tennessee is looking at a better shot than it has had against LSU, with Skenes likely out of the picture.

The Tigers also burned Ty Floyd and Thatcher Hurd last night against Wake Forest. The Vols should play RHP Drew Beam, who has pitched well this past month.

If they make it through LSU tonight, they’ll face Wake Forest Wednesday needing to beat the No. 1 Demon Deacons twice to reach the championship series.
