Tennessee third baseman Zane Denton is having one heck of a postseason run.

Denton’s latest June moment came on Monday night in the bottom of the fifth inning in Game 3 of the Hattiesburg Super Regional. With two men on base, two outs, and Tennessee up 1-0, Denton cranked a three-run home run to right field to put the Vols up 4-0. Denton’s home run traveled an impressive 418 feet from the plate.

The ESPN broadcasters on the call, Todd Walker and Roy Philpott, referred to Denton as a “baby-faced assassin” after the home run.

During Tennessee’s game against Clemson in the Clemson Regional last weekend, Denton launched a three-run blast with Tennessee down to their final strike in the game to put the Vols up by one run. While Clemson did tie the game in the bottom of the ninth inning, Tennessee’s eventual win in extra innings would never have been possible without Denton’s clutch home run.

The former Alabama transfer now has four home runs in Tennessee’s last five games dating back to the Clemson Regional.

Coming off of his success last weekend, social media blew up with fake rumors of Denton dating music sensation Taylor Swift. Those social media rumors even made their way over to the team throughout the week.

“Right now I think he is in as good of a rhythm as possible,” head coach Tony Vitello said of Denton last week. “I mean, dating Taylor Swift, apparently. At least, that’s – something about that in the Group Me (group text). Sometimes when [the players] get going on the Group Me and it’s not that important, I don’t pay full attention. But something to that effect.”

Tennessee currently leads Southern Miss 4-0 in the bottom of the 6th inning at the time of this publication. The game is Game 3 of the Hattiesburg Super Regional. Follow @RockyTopInsider on Twitter for non-stop Tennessee Baseball coverage.
