After both Joshua Dobbs and Cedric Tillman both played football for Tennessee last year, the two former Volunteers are now rostered by the Cleveland Browns heading into the 2023 NFL season.

Dobbs, on one hand, started the final two games of the regular season for the Tennessee Titans before signing with Cleveland as a free agent this offseason. Dobbs signed a one-year contract with the Browns prior to the 2022 season but was waived in late November following the return of quarterback Deshaun Watson from suspension. The former Volunteer signed to the Detroit Lions practice squad but was quickly picked up by the Tennessee Titans, leading to the starts in the final two contests.

Cedric Tillman, on the other, is heading into his rookie NFL season after an injury-filled senior season with the Tennessee Volunteers. Tillman only played in six games due to a nagging ankle injury but continued to naturally impress when he was on the field. The time away from playing allowed Tillman to fully recover and begin training for the NFL, which led to a third-round draft pick by the Cleveland Browns.

Dobbs and Tillman represent two of the three former Tennessee players on the Browns’ roster, along with running back John Kelly Jr.

During the Cleveland Browns training camp earlier this week, the team posted a video of Dobbs and Tillman connecting on the field. If some sort of injury happens to Watson at some point throughout the year, Dobbs and Tillman could be moving this Tennessee connection from the practice field to the game field.
