Four-star running back Peyton Lewis announced his commitment to Tennessee football Saturday afternoon on his Twitter.
Lewis is one of the Vols’ top tailback targets in the 2024 recruiting cycle and committed to Tennessee over a top six that included Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Penn State and South Carolina. While Alabama, Florida and Georgia were in Lewis’ top group the Vols’ tightest competition for the blue chip recruit was South Carolina and Penn State.
A Salem, Virginia native, Lewis ranks as a four-star recruit and the No. 215 player in the country according to the 247sports composite rankings. Lewis ranks as the No. 15 prep running back in the country and the No. 3 player in the state of Virginia.
The 6-foot-1, 190-pound running back is a standout at Salem High School. As a junior last fall, Lewis rushed for 1,560 yards and 17 touchdowns while earning all-state honors. Lewis is also a track star for Salem.

Lewis is in the midst of a visit to Tennessee when he announced his commitment to Josh Heupel and his staff. The four-star’s visit for “865Live” is his third trip to Knoxville in as many months. Lewis also took visits to Virginia, Virginia Tech, Penn State and South Carolina in 2023.
The blue chip recruit is Tennessee’s 12th overall commit and first running back commit in the 2024 recruiting class. The Vols have also been pursuing four-star running backs Braylen Russell and Daniel Hill. How Lewis’ commitment affects Tennessee’s recruitment of Russell and Hill is to be determined.
Lewis’ commitment gives Tennessee the nation’s No. 8 recruiting class according to the 247sports team rankings.
