Kamron “Kam” Mikell, a high-ranking recruit in the class of 2024, announced on Friday afternoon that he will be taking an official visit to the University of Tennessee football program on Saturday, Nov. 18.

That date is the day that Tennessee is set to host the two-time defending National Champion Georgia Bulldogs in Neyland Stadium.

Mikell is a four-star athlete/cornerback from Statesboro, Georgia, which is located in the southeast portion of the state.

After receiving an offer from Tennessee this past January, Mikell took an unofficial visit to campus back in April and is back in town this weekend for a star-studded recruiting event held by Tennessee.

Mikell holds a four-star ranking from 247 Sports, Rivals, ESPN, and On3. Additionally, according to 247’s composite rankings, Mikell comes in as the No. 133 player nationally, the No. 11 athlete in the class, and the No. 24 player from the state of Georgia. On3 has Mikell as the No. 15 cornerback in the class.

At 6-foot-2, 181-pounds, Kamron Mikell is a “year-round athlete,” as 247 Sports scouting director Andrew Ivins wrote in an evaluation. In addition to what he can do on the gridiron, Mikell is also an extremely gifted track runner and is a talented guard for his school’s basketball team.

The height and length that Mikell brings to the table is something that Tennessee defensive backs coach Willie Martinez certainly values.

“We love length,” Martinez said during the Vols’ spring camp. “When you’re trying to go against these wide receivers that are tall and got great size, you want the length. It’s not just the height factor, you’ve got to have the long arms, you’ve got to have the speed, you’ve got to have all the other skill sets that you need. There is no doubt that we like to see those guys.”

It looks as though Tennessee will have to work hard to take Mikell away from the in-state Georgia program, though. The Bulldogs currently lead the way at 90.5 percent according to On3 Sports’ Recruiting Prediction Machine. In addition, Georgia possesses both of the 247 Sports Crystal Ball predictions from recruiting director Steve Wiltfong and Georgia insider Kipp Adams.

That’s also what makes the official visit date so interesting. Tennessee has not beat Georgia in Knoxville since 2015 when the Vols won by a score of 38-31. The Vols won back-to-back years in 2015 and 2016 but have lost six straight to the Bulldogs since then.

Tennessee currently has 11 commits to the 2024 class, which ranks No. 9 nationally according to 247 Sports’ rankings. The Vols have two commits from the state of Georgia with four-star quarterback Jake Merklinger and three-star defensive lineman Jeremias Heard.

The Vols also have two defensive backs lined up in the class already with four-star cornerback Kaleb Beasley (Nashville, TN) and three-star safety Edrees Farooq (Baltimore, MD).
