The Tennessee Volunteers, the defending tournament champions, are slated to compete in the opening round of the 2023 SEC baseball tournament this week in Hoover, Alabama.
After finishing the regular season with a 16-14 conference record thanks to a strong series win on the road over No. 13 South Carolina, Tennessee landed as the No. 7 seed in the upcoming tournament. The Vols will play 10-seed Texas A&M in the second game of the tournament on Tuesday afternoon. The first game of the tournament will begin at 10:30 a.m. ET and Tennessee will play 30 minutes following that contest.
The Vols swept the Aggies in Knoxville in the second SEC series of the year back in late March. Tennessee won those games by scores of 10-4, 8-7, and 9-6.
The first round of the SEC Tournament is single elimination format. The second, third, and fourth rounds, however, are slated for double elimination. The tournament returns to the single elimination format for the semifinals and the championship game on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
While the winner of (7) Tennessee and (10) Texas A&M will move on to play (2) Arkansas in the second round, the loser will be eliminated from the tournament.
As the 7-seed in the 2022 SEC Baseball Tournament, the Florida Gators made it all the way to the championship game but fell to (1) Tennessee by a score of 8-5.
