Tennessee Baseball head coach Tony Vitello met with the media following the Vols’ 23-4 win over Morehead State to break down the win.
Tennessee third baseman Zane Denton hit for the cycle in the win, becoming only the fifth Vol to do so in program history.
“It was pretty cool,” Vitello said on Denton hitting for the cycle. “The best part was seeing the smile on his face… Every now and then it is a kid’s game and you’ve got to have some fun. To see him have that huge smile on his face was awesome.”
Maui Ahuna also had a big night in his third game as the leadoff hitter. The junior went 2-2 with 2 HR, 5 RBI and drew three walks in what was his best game at the plate as a Vol.
“It was awesome,” Vitello said on Ahuna hitting his first home run as a Vol. “It’s good for him. I’ll tell you what, normally as a coach, you think you’re smarter than you are, but you honestly could kind of see it coming. He’s taken good swings – some of the results haven’t been there – but in the last couple of days his swing has looked really clean and looked really good.”
