Tennessee baseball bounced back from its first series loss of the season by knocking off Alabama State in a midweek. matchup and winning two of three games in a hotly contested top 10 series at Ole Miss.

The Vols took the series opener behind a brilliant 8.1 inning out from left-handed pitcher Liam Doyle who struck out 14 batters while allowing just three hits and two runs. In a true Friday night pitcher’s duel, Tennessee held on to a 3-2 win with Dylan Loy stranding the winning run on first base.

A poor Marcus Phillips start and underwhelming hitting with runners on base plagued Tennessee in an 8-5 game two loss to even the weekend series.

Tennessee played putrid defense in the series rubber match, committing four error and making a number of other mistakes as a four-run lead turned into a one-run deficit entering the ninth inning. But right fielder Reese Chapman played hero, hitting a go-ahead two-run homer to give Tennessee a ninth inning lead.

Chapman, Andrew Fischer and Gavin Kilen led the way for Tennessee’s offense over the weekend. Fischer reached base eight times with three extra-base hits in his return to Ole Miss while Kilen recorded six hits in his return to the starting lineup.
