Tennessee women’s basketball landed its first transfer portal commit on Sunday afternoon when SMU guard Nya Robertson committed to Kim Caldwell and her staff following a weekend visit to Tennessee.

A 5-foot-7 guard, Robertson earned Second Team All-ACC honors for her play during her junior season at SMU. Robertson totaled 18.5 points, three rebounds and 1.7 assists per game. Robertson scored 25-plus points six different times last season including a season-high 32 points in a loss at Louisville.

The only knock on Robertson’s season at SMU was her efficiency, she shot just 32.5% from the field and 31.2% from three-point range and a SMU team that went 10-20 and tied for a last place finish in the ACC.

Prior to spending the 2024-25 season at SMU, Robertson spent two seasons at George Washington. She averaged 16.2 points and 14.4 points per game in two seasons at GW, shooting a more efficient 37% and 36% from the field. Robertson earned Third Team All-A10 honors in her sophomore season with the Revolutionaries.

Robertson is Tennessee’s first transfer portal commit of the offseason as Caldwell looks to bolster her second Lady Vols’ roster in the portal. The SMU transfer will help the Lady Vols replace Samara Spencer who is out of eligibility after averaging 10.6 points per game last season.

Tennessee has lost two reserves to the transfer portal in Favor Ayodele and Avery Strickland. The former is still in the portal while the latter committed to Belmont late last week.

The Lady Vols posted a 24-10 (8-8 SEC) record in Caldwell’s first season as head coach. Tennessee ended a four-game losing streak to rival UConn, beating the eventual national champions in Knoxville. The Lady Vols landed as a five-seed in the NCAA Tournament before making a run to the Sweet 16.
