Tennessee announced the signing of forward Jaylen Carey on Tuesday as the Vols’ second addition from the transfer portal this offseason. The Vols worked quickly to secure Carey’s commitment and add a heap of toughness and physicality to the roster with this move.
Standing at 6-foot-8, 265-pounds, Carey is a force to be reckoned with on the basketball court. The former Vanderbilt transfer excels at offensive rebounding and finishing at the rim, two things that will help shape the identity of Tennessee’s next team after the quick rebuild.
Carey averaged 8.0 points and 5.8 rebounds per game last season. In two games against Tennessee, though? He scored a total of 32 points with 17 rebounds. Carey’s physicality was too much for Tennessee to handle in the paint as he went for 14 points and 18 points in two meetings against the Vols.
