Tennessee basketball landed its second commitment in the transfer portal on Sunday night when Vanderbilt forward Jaylen Carey committed to Rick Barnes and his staff.

A 6-foot-9 forward, Carey spent his sophomore season at Vanderbilt where he averaged eight points and 5.7 rebounds per game. The power forward got better as the season progressed, averaging 9.5 points and 6.2 rebounds for the Commodores in SEC play.

Carey comes to Tennessee looking to earn playing time in a front court that returns Felix Okpara, Cade Phillips and JP Estrella and adds DeWayne Brown from the prep ranks. The physical power forward brings Tennessee rebounding and interior scoring. If his jump shot improves than his ability to stretch the floor will be massive for the Vols next season.

The Florida native comes to Tennessee with two years of eligibility and it could be three if the NCAA approves a fifth year of eligibility sometime in the next few years.

Tennessee transfer commit Ja’Kobi Gillespie is one of the very top players in the portal. Carey Is not that but is a good player. Here’s where he lands in the portal rankings.
