Tennessee baseball dropped its first series of the season over the weekend when Texas A&M took two out of three over the Vols in Knoxville.
The weekend started incredibly well for Tennessee with the Vols’ run-ruling Texas A&M 10-0 in seven innings. Left-handed pitchers Liam Doyle and Dylan Loy combined to throw a no-hitter in the seven inning game. It was the Vols pitching staff’s second no-hitter of the season.
But things were down hill from there. Texas A&M swept the Saturday doubleheader, taking game one 9-3 and game two 17-6 in an eight inning run-rule victory. It was a brutal day for Tennessee’s pitching staff as the Aggies offense had the breakout performance they’ve been looking for all season.
Entering Saturday’s doubleheader, Tennessee’s pitching staff had allowed just 17 home runs all season. The Aggies combined to hit 11 home runs in the two Saturday games. Texas A&M’s seven home runs in game two was just one short of an opposing team record at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
Tennessee’s offense wasn’t too much better, struggling to string together productive at-bats in the final two games of the season. The Vols are looking to get back on the right track as they head to Ole Miss for a three-game series this weekend.
So where did Tennessee baseball land in various rankings following its first series loss of the season? Taking a look here.
