Tennessee basketball landed its first commit in the transfer portal on Friday afternoon when Ja’Kobi Gillespie committed to the Vols over Villanova.
Gillespie comes to Tennessee after two seasons at Belmont and one season at Maryland. The 6-foot-1 point guard averaged 14.7 points, 4.8 assists and 1.9 steals per game last season, helping lead the Terrapins to their first Sweet 16 appearance since 2016.
A Greeneville native, Gillespie is coming home to Tennessee for his senior season. He’s the Vols’ first commit in the transfer portal this offseason as Rick Barnes and his staff look to bolster their roster in the transfer portal.
It’s a great starting point for the Vols as Gillespie is one of the top players in the transfer portal. Here’s where Gillespie lands in multiple transfer portal rankings.
