Tennessee senior Chaz Lanier was named the recipient of the 2025 Jerry West Award on Saturday afternoon, given to the nation’s top shooting guard from the previous season.
Lanier averaged 18.0 points per game on 39.5% three-point shooting during his lone year on Rocky Top. The former North Florida transfer also broke Tennessee’s single-season three-point record with 123 made across 38 games.
Tennessee assistant coach Rod Clark broke the news to Lanier through a film session request, secretly plotting to reveal the award instead. Though Lanier was skeptical of the film call, he went along with it anyway.
What happened next will surely bring a smile to any Tennessee fan.
