Former Tennessee quarterback Joe Milton III will reunite with a former teammate as a member of the Dallas Cowboys organization after being traded from the New England Patriots on Thursday morning.
Milton, along with a 7th-round draft pick, is being sent to Dallas in exchange for a 5th-round draft pick. With only one season in the NFL under his belt, Milton will have three years remaining on his rookie contract with the Cowboys.
Milton will team back up with one of his old running mates in the Cowboys’ facility, too. Former Tennessee tight end and utility man Princeton Fant had an active status with the Cowboys during the second half of the 2024 season and could maintain that in 2025, possibly on a league base salary.
Fant was on the Cowboys’ practice squad for the majority of the 2023 season but made his way to the active squad in late November 2024. Fant played in eight games for Dallas during the 2024 season with 14 offensive snaps and 148 special teams snaps, tallying one combined tackle on the season.

Milton will also have familiar faces on one of the Cowboys’ division rivals, too. As opponents in the NFC East, Milton and the Cowboys will see former Tennessee wide receiver Jalin Hyatt and former Tennessee defensive back Dee Williams twice a year in the division schedule. The Giants drafted Hyatt in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft and picked up Williams in December following a cut by Seattle the day before. Hyatt is set to enter his third year in the league in 2025, while Williams and Milton enter their second years.
There’s still a lot of offseason football to be played before the start of fall training camp, though, which obviously could impact some of the roster talk that has been previously mentioned. Still, as of now, those are some of the familiar names that former Tennessee quarterback Joe Milton III will likely be seeing more often after being traded from New England to Dallas on Thursday morning.
