The SEC will welcome a pair of new basketball coaches to the Lone Star State this offseason.
While Texas has already replaced Rodney Terry with Xavier head coach Sean Miller, it appears Texas A&M will be on the hunt for a new head coach as well.
According to an announcement from the school on Tuesday, Texas A&M head coach Buzz Williams is leaving to take the vacant job at Maryland. Williams’ move on Tuesday ends a six-year tenure in College Station.

Williams went 120-73 in 193 games at Texas A&M with three-straight NCAA Tournament appearances in his final three years.
Tennessee and Rick Barnes went 5-3 against Williams and A&M in eight meetings. The Vols currently have two straight wins over the Aggies including a 77-69 win this past season in College Station.
Known for his three-piece suits on the sideline, Williams may also be remembered in Knoxville for his infamous timeout call during a game in College Station in February 2024. Williams attempted to draw the attention of the officials for a timeout by nearly running out to center court and was given a bench warning in the process.
That’s the craziest timeout attempt I’ve ever seen from a head coach.

What in the heck was he thinking?

As of this publication, Texas and Texas A&M are the only two SEC teams going through coaching changes so far. Texas has already hired Xavier’s Sean Miller to replace Rodney Terry while Texas A&M now begins the hunt for its next coach.
Tennessee, on the other hand, won’t be on the coaching search list. Despite some rumbling questions over the course of the season, Tennessee head coach Rick Barnes shut down any retirement rumors before the Vols’ Sweet 16 contest last week.
“I love coaching basketball,” Barnes said last Thursday. “I love being around it. I know right now how hard we’re working right now. We’ve already had a young man on campus after we got back Saturday, Sunday, we had a young man on campus that committed to us. We’re already planning to have a team next year. I fully plan to be a part of it.”
