Tennessee’s NCAA Tournament run ended on Sunday afternoon in Indianapolis. The Vols came up just short of the Final Four for a second-straight season with a 69-50 loss against 1-seed Houston in Lucas Oil Stadium.
Senior guards Chaz Lanier and Jordan Gainey put up 17 points each but it wasn’t enough for the win. Houston took control of the game with a 22 to 8 run out of the opening gates. While Tennessee did fight back to close the gap in the second half, Houston’s lead was too much to overcome.
Tennessee ends an impressive season with a 30-8 record, a trip to the SEC Tournament finals, and a trip to the Elite Eight. The Vols held the No. 1 ranking for a handful of weeks early in the season and senior guard Zakai Zeigler set the Tennessee and SEC record for most assists in a single season.
After the game, Tennessee met with the media to break down the end of its season. Included in the interview was head coach Rick Barnes, senior guard Zakai Zeigler, senior guard Jahmai Mashack, and senior guard Jordan Gainey.
