Former Tennessee basketball guard DJ Jefferson is re-entering the transfer portal after one year away from the program, he announced on Thursday.

Jefferson spent the 2024-2025 season with Longwood and appeared in a total of 13 games. Jefferson’s final appearance this season came during the Lancers’ run in the Big South tournament with a loss to Winthrop in the quarterfinals.

“Thank you! My time at Longwood University has been an incredible experience, and I am beyond grateful for my coaches, teammates, and everyone who has supported me along the way,” Jefferson wrote in a social media announcement on Thursday. “After much thought and consideration, I have decided to enter the transfer portal. Longwood has helped me grow both as a player and as a person, and I will always appreciate the memories being made here. With that being said, I am excited for the next chapter of my basketball journey and look forward to seeing what the future holds!”

Jefferson was a four-star prospect in the 2022 recruiting class and took a redshirt in his first season with Tennessee. The Texas native saw action in just one game during his second season in Knoxville, leading to a transfer portal entry the week after the Vols fell to Purdue in the Elite Eight last season.

The 6-foot-5, 220-pound guard saw action in 13 games for the Lancers this season with an average stat line of 3.7 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 0.4 assists per game. Jefferson’s best career showing came against Regent on Dec. 1, where he scored 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting in a 108-55 win for Longwood.

Lancers head coach Griff Aldrich recently left to be an assistant on Ryan Odom’s new staff at Virginia.

While he didn’t see much time on the court during his stretch on Rocky Top, Jefferson routinely dazzled the Tennessee fans in Thompson Boling Arena with electrifying pre-game dunks during the “One Fly, We All Fly” routine.
