Sweet 16 Thursday night preview and odds

Only one double-digit seed cracked the Sweet 16 after West Region No. 10 Arkansas stunned No. 2 St. John’s last weekend to advance.

In all, there are four contests on the Thursday schedule:

  • 7:09 p.m., ET No. 6 BYU vs. No. 2 Alabama
  • 7:39 p.m. No. 4 Maryland vs. No. 1 Florida
  • 9:39 p.m. No. 4 Arizona vs. No. 1 Duke
  • 10:09 p.m. No. 10 Arkansas vs. No. 3 Texas Tech

East No. 6 BYU won a 91-89 thriller against No. 3 Wisconsin last Saturday, and now sets its sights on No. 2 Alabama. The Crimson Tide dispatched No. 7 St. Mary’s 80-66 on Sunday.

Each team possesses a potent offense, so this could be a high-scoring affair in Newark, N.J.. FanDuel Sportsbook had the Tide as 4.5-point favorites in this one as of midday Thursday.

When No. 4 Maryland battles No. 1 Florida in San Francisco, it will only be the fourth meeting between these two storied programs.

The Terrapins are led by star freshman Derik Queen who is averaging 16.2 points and 9.2 rebounds per game. The Gators are 6.5-point favorites, with the total sitting at 157.5 points.

The Blue Devils notched a 69-55 victory over the Wildcats in Tucson back in November, and Thursday’s rematch will decide who heads to the Elite Eight.

The Wildcats are led by Caleb Love, who spent three seasons with Duke arch-rival North Carolina. That familiarity could be key in this one as Duke is a 9.5-point favorite.

Capping the evening is No. 10 Arkansas and No. 3 Texas Tech. The Razorbacks can’t quite be qualified as a “Cinderella” team under veteran coach John Calipari, but they’re the lowest remaining seed in the Sweet 16 and 5.5-point underdogs to the Red Raiders.

FanDuel’s $200 welcome offer for new players sets them apart from other sportsbooks in the marketplace. Get signed up with FanDuel today to get in on the action.
