March Madness Sweet 16 preview, best DraftKings promos
Thursday night features four March Madness games, the winners of which will head into the Elite Eight round of the NCAA Tournament.
- 7:09 p.m. ET, No. 6 seed BYU vs. No. 2 Alabama
- 7:39 p.m No. 4 Maryland vs. No. 1 Florida
- 9:39 p.m. No. 4 Arizona vs. No. 1 Duke
- 10:09 p.m. No. 10 Arkansas vs. No. 3 Texas Tech
BYU and No. 2 Alabama get things started in the East Region in Newark, N.J. , where the Crimson Tide are favored.
The Cougars like to pour on the 3-ball, and they will meet one of the nation’s top 3-point defenses in the Tide. The BYU scoring defense is pretty dreadful, ranking 155th in Division 1.
West Region No. 4 Maryland relied on last-second heroics to top No. 12 Colorado State in the second round, and the Terrapins now face one of the national title favorites in top seed Florida in San Francisco. That’s a tall order for the Terps, who have not cracked the Elite Eight since 2002.
Led by first-team All-American guard Walter Clayton Jr., the Gators topped the two-time defending-champion UConn Huskies 77-75 to advance to the Sweet 16.
Can Caleb Love knock off Duke once more? Arizona’s current leading scorer provided the dagger that bounced the Blue Devils from the 2022 Final Four when he was wearing North Carolina blue.
The No. 4 Wildcats will hope that Love can provide that same amount of magic to snap No. 1 Duke’s 13-game win streak and knock off the current NCAA tourney favorites in Newark. They’ll have to overcome likely No. 1 pick Cooper Flagg and a near-10-point spread to do so.
No. 10 Arkansas vs. No. 3 Texas Tech rounds out the evening back out West.
While this year’s bracket doesn’t feature a true ‘Cinderella’ in the Sweet 16, coach John Calipari’s Razorbacks are the lowest remaining seed still alive. Upset wins over Kansas and St. John’s in the tournament’s first two rounds have provided Arkansas with some underdog momentum, but they’ll need to slow down favored Texas Tech’s JT Toppin, who is averaging nearly a double-double.
