
The Tennessee Lady Volunteers are heading to the Sweet 16 in Kim Caldwell’s first season at the helm.
The first-year Tennessee coach led the 5-seed Lady Vols to a win over 4-seed Ohio State by a score of 82-67 on Sunday night in Columbus, OH.
The Lady Vols led 66-59 heading into the fourth quarter, and that’s where Tennessee put the clamps on. Ohio State scored 24 points in the third quarter but was held to just eight points in the fourth quarter as Tennessee extended its lead. By the time the final whistle blew, Tennessee had a statement 15-point victory in a road NCAA Tournament game.
Talaysia Cooper led Tennessee with 19 points and was one of four double-digit scorers alongside Zee Spearman with 17, Ruby Whitehorn with 14, and Samara Spencer with 10. Cooper also had a game-high eight rebounds while Spencer had a game-high six assists.

Tennessee will face 1-seed Texas on March 29 in the Sweet 16.
After the game, Tennessee’s Kim Caldwell, Talaysia Cooper, and Jewel Spear met with the media to discuss their reactions to the Lady Vols’ win.
