This will be only the second meeting in each of these program’s histories, with UCLA holding the lone victory over Tennessee in 1977. Guard Chaz Lanier put up historic numbers in the Volunteers’ first-round win over Wofford, posting 29 points and shooting 11-22 from the field. His 29 points were the most all-time for a Vols player in an NCAA Tournament win. Senior guard Zakai Ziegler chipped in a 12-point, 12-assist double-double for good measure as Tennessee topped Wofford 77-62 in a wire-to-wire win.
No. 7 UCLA throttled No. 10 Utah State 72-47, shooting an eye-popping 55% from the field in the first half. They would finish the game with a 48% FGP, including hitting 10 of 24 from beyond the arc. Led by guards Skyy Clark and Eric Dailey Jr. who scored 14 points apiece, the Bruins’ offense looked fierce and dominant.
They will now need to find a way to keep that scoring momentum up against one of the nation’s top defenses in Tennessee.
UCLA are 4.5-point underdogs in this second-round meeting, with the over/under sitting at 131.5 points.
