No one in Tennessee basketball history has made more three-pointers in a single season than Chaz Lanier. The super senior shooting guard became the Vols’ new single-season three-point champion on Saturday night with his third made triple in Tennessee’s NCAA Tournament matchup against UCLA.

Lanier’s first three-pointer was Tennessee’s first made field goal just over four minutes into the game. His second three-pointer came a few minutes later running off a ball screen deep on the left wing. He broke the record in the opening minutes of the second half with a bomb from the right wing.

Lanier’s record breaking three-pointer was the 119th of his season, breaking Chris Lofton’s 118 made three-pointers during the 2007-08 season. Entering the 2024-25 season, Lofton held the top three spots on Tennessee basketball’s single-season three pointers made record book.

Lanier finished the regular season with 105 made three-pointers, joining Lofton and Santiago Vescovi as the only Tennessee basketball players to make 100-plus three pointers in a single season.

Still, the North Florida transfer was behind all three of Lofton’s seasons in the record book. Lanier passed Lofton’s 2006-07 season during the Vols’ SEC Tournament opener against Texas and passed his 2005-06 season during Tennessee’s NCAA Tournament win over Wofford.

Lanier has had a fantastic super senior season after transferring to Tennessee after spending four seasons at North Florida. Perhaps the most impressive part of Lanier’s record breaking season is the efficiency of which he’s made his three-point attempt. Lanier entered the Round of 32 matchup shooting 40% from three-point range.

The 6-foot-4 shooting guard earned AP First Team All-SEC honors and Coaches Second Team All-SEC honors. Th AP also named Lanier an honorable mention All-American. Lanier entered Tennessee’s matchup with UCLA averaging 18 points and 3.8 rebounds per game.
