(2) Florida claimed an SEC Tournament championship with an 86-77 win over (4) Tennessee on Sunday afternoon in Nashville’s Bridestone Arena.
Jordan Gainey led Tennessee with 24 points while Zakai Zeigler put up 23 of his own, but it wasn’t enough to break Florida’s lead throughout the contest. Tennessee made a few pushes in the second half but never captured the lead.
Tennessee played well but ran into a red-hot team, as Sunday’s championship win was Florida’s sixth-straight victory with wins over Texas A&M, Alabama (x2), Missouri, and now Tennessee.
Florida’s Walter Clayton Jr. led the Gators with 22 points.
After the game, Tennessee and Florida players and coaches both spent a few minutes with the media. Tennessee head coach Rick Barnes was joined by Jordan Gainey and Jahmai Mashack while Florida head coach Todd Golden was joined by Walter Clayton Jr and Will Richard.
