Five-star forward Nate Ament released his top five including Tennessee basketball and has a played commitment date on Tuesday afternoon.

Arkansas, Duke, Kentucky and Louisville joined Tennessee in Ament’s top group and he plans on announcing his commitment on April 1 at the McDonald’s All-American game according to On3’s Joe Tipton.

Ament is one of the top players in the 2025 recruiting cycle, ranking as a five-star recruit and the No. 4 player in the country according to the 247sports composite rankings. The 6-foot-9, 185-pound prospect ranks as the No. 1 player in Virginia and the No. 2 power forward in the 2025 recruiting cycle.

While recruiting sites peg Ament as a power forward, the talented prospect can play on the perimeter as a small forward and is a high level shooter.

Tennessee has long recruited the five-star forward and has hosted him on a pair of visits to this point. Ament officially visited the Vols back in the fall and returned for an unofficial visit late last month when the Vols hosted Kentucky at Thompson-Boling Arena at Food City Center.

Ament has also taken a pair of visits to Duke and a lone official visit to Kentucky and Louisville. Arkansas is the only team in Ament’s top five that he has yet to visit. Duke and Kentucky are the two perceived favorites to land the five star’s services with just over a month remaining until his commitment.

This is an incredibly important recruiting class for Rick Barnes and Tennessee basketball due to the high number of scholarships that they have available. The Vols have eight scholarships to work with in the 2025 recruiting cycle. They started the season with two scholarship spots unfilled. Cam Carr leaving the program made it three for the spring semester.

Tennessee currently has two signees in its 2025 recruiting class in four-star wing Amari Evans and four-star center De’Wayne Brown. The Vols are pursuing a handful of high school prospects in the 2025 recruiting cycle including five-star combo guard Brayden Burries, four-star point guard Chance Mallory and three-star point guard Zyree Collins

Barnes and his staff will also be aggressive pursuing prospects in the transfer portal this offseason as they look to fill out their roster for the 2025-26 season.
